Helping Problem Solve with Creativity

1. Paint : Connect with your creativity by letting your paint brush or pencil go where it wants to go on the paper. Don’t be attached to producing an image which looks like a photograph. Just see what happens when you are unattached to the outcome.. When you feel your painting is finished look at it from a distance and think about what connection it may have to your problem and notice what you see in relation to that. You may be amazed to see something which helps you solve the problem.

2. Visualise : Relax completely from your head to your toes letting go of any tension in your body and then imagine or visualise going to a safe place where you will find either the answer to solving your problem or meet a wise person or creature who has the answer you seek. Ask them what to do and listen to what they tell you. At the end of the process make sure you note down whatever insights you received.

3. Non dominant hand : Take a piece of paper and a pencil and write a question about your problem. Then taking the pencil in your non dominant hand write whatever comes to you. You’ll be amazed at how the process brings you new ways to solve the problem.

4. Mind map: Draw a mind map with your problem as the central point and then branches with the possible solutions you’ve already thought of. and sub branches of how to do those things. As you engage in the process of mind-mapping you will find that other possibilities occur to you which will mean you can put in more branches and sub-branches into the mind map.

5. Talk to a good listener: Find someone who is good at listening but won’t offer you solutions just non-judgmental nods and indications that they are listening to you. As you talk and explain the details of the problem you will find that the process of doing that itself will allow other ideas to come into your head and new possible ways to solve your problems.
